You need to start with a compression check. That will give you a good idea how worn the engine is. If it's burning oil that fast it should be smoking like a volcano.
It could be leaking. Some leaks only occur when you're on the road, so you wouldn't see puddles on the driveway.
If you drove it after the oil light came on, you probably trashed the engine. That light means you have little or no oil pressure and you have to stop immediately.

How many miles are on the engine? What brand of oil are you putting in your car? If its a higher milege car, you valve seals, or rings may be going bad, and the engine maybe burning the oil. Do you notice a blue colored smoke coming from the exhaust pipe? If so, you are burning the oil.
Also, if you have a higher milege car, anything over 130000 miles, DO NOT run Castrol motor oil in it as, for reasons unknown to me, will cause you engine to use oil.
This from experience.

your car is very sick, and it is eating oil for breakfast.
"ITS BURNING IT"
check the oil every fill up of gas.
have oil spare n the trunk.
top off every fill !!!
your car most likely has 1 or more broken oil control rings on the pistons.
some drive for years like this , following my rules above.
learn to guage how many miles per quart you are using.
simple math . really.
eg: I drove 300 miles and I used 1/2 quart, so my consumption is 1 qt every 600 miles
expect this from now on.
Also get thinker oil in the engine.
try 15-40w oil. or 20-50w oil.
this WILL reduce the burn rate.
with these facts you are GOOD to go

Check the oil pressure senser on the side of the engin for a loose wire. The senser could be bad. If it was your oil pump you would have burned the engin by now.

Civics of that era are prone to "burning" oil. Take it to a reutable shop to get their opinion but most likely looking at an engine.
You probably see blue smoke behind you when you are accelerating?????

You put the wrong oil in it, or your oil pump is going bad.
