She got off birth control maybe five months ago, and her period is late when it was always like clockwork. She think she might have an ectopic pregnancy (very doubful unless she's 6 months along and didnt know it) or endometriosis. The doctor says they can induce her period for her, with Progest and other hormones.

Is that like the abortion pill ru-486 or whatever? ISn't that bad? I told her to tell them no but she's not sure what to do. If they induce her period, will it be painful? What do you think she is?

We thought it might be a bladder infection, but test says no.

Thanks for your help

when you stop bc it can take up to 2 years for your body to normalize. The cramps may be a number of things...ovarian cysts, endometriosis or a variety of things. They can induce a period using hormones. it is not like abortion. Add back therapy is really common for women getting off bc. Especially if she had been on it for a long period of time. have her talk with the doctor. Voice your questions and concerns...answering them is what they are paid for.

Have they considered a blood clot or TIA stroke?

Why do you only "think she might" or "doubt" that it's an ectopic pregnancy? She needs to find out for sure.

If it is, she needs emergency treatment, hormones tablets won't cut it. I don't see how the doctor would suggest them without testing her for (any type of) pregnancy first.

I can't remember the stroke symptoms but I just put it out there in case. Cramps that bad can be caused by periods sometimes and starting or stopping BC can change them.
Even stress or exercise or eating habits can change a period that is usually like clockwork

She should get tested for pregnancy NOW, and if it is ruled out just try to ride it out with pain medication (but do other tests the doctor thinks are necessary if they suspect something)

I wouldn't mess about with any hormones, imo it would only complicate things further.

Being stressed about something whether the cause is good or bad can also cause the period to be delayed by a week. Also, because she's been off the pill for 5 months her period could be coming at any time.

You should not be having ANY contractions (permit by myself painful ones) at 18 weeks. Sounds like pre-time period exertions to me. YOu relatively ought to name your general practitioner and they are going to often direct you to Labor & Delivery on the sanatorium.
