I am about to turn 23 years old and I wrote a novel when I was 20 years old, so I've been on the search for a while now. Can someone please help me in finding a literary agent. Thank You

I have starred a lot of Q and A regarding writing with good info on them. There are several about agents. Whenever I find more good questions and answers I star them for those on my fans list to access. You can print them up and study them.

Start at the library with Literary Marketplace. It is a reference book. You can buy one but it costs 300 bucks. Take a notebook because you would have to make a lot of notes. For other information from there, refer to my starred Q and A. Pax - C

You start by querying literary agents. This is done with a one page letter describing yourself and your book. Sometimes the agent will request you include the first few pages or chapters, but that is an individual preference.

There are several websites out there that will help you find an agent, my favorite is QueryTracker.net at http://www.querytracker.net/ . It is free and has a list of literary agents and also tools to help you keep track of who you already queried and who you haven't, plus more.

They do a good job of keeping the crooks off their lists, but it is still a good idea to double check at http://www.sfwa.org/beware/twentyworst.html.

There are a lot of crooks out there. Never pay anyone to read or publish your book. A real agent will never ask for money except as a percentage of your royalties.

Keep in mind that finding an agent and getting published is not an easy process. Some people have to query hundreds of agents before they find one who will accept them (sadly, some never get accepted), but be persistent and keep trying.

You should also visit http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums one of the largest forums for writers. They can be very helpful.

Good luck.

Try looking at the literary market guides to editors, agents, and publishers at your local bookstores.

Also search out agent websites through the sfwa.org websites and others linked to it.

It takes awhile to get an agent--especially a good one--since there are so many writers out there who are trying the same thing: Hunting for an agent.

You can find local literary agents in a phone directory or on a Internet Literary Agent directory which you can find via a simple search on a search engine such as Google or the search engine of your choice.

A lot of what everyone tells you here is correct. Just be careful about those agents who are eager to take you on and want to you pay a reader's fee. They are not legit. A Lit Agent gets a percentage of your work, usually fifteen.

I wish you luck...

Use Query letters to Lit Agents in New York with SASE. Make them short and to the point. It's a tough nut to crack.

wish I could.

I'd like to find one for myself too.

work on some poetry/short stories and enter some contests. If you win some, maybe an agent will find you???

Check out Predators and Editors... There's a list from A-Z, and if they have a bad rep, it should be listed there... So look for the ones that have "Highly recommended" or the ones without any negative notes next to them... Check out their websites and send them query letters...

Congrats on finishing it! I am writing the first in my series... I'm 20 and i want to get it published...

What genre is your book?

Let us know how you go, and if you get one! :D
