I have had a cat for a nearly a year. At first it was rather cute but then a couple of months ago it just started to become a real pain. Scratching the furniture and peeing all over the place.

Yesterday, I watched it as it peed into my panty drawer and finally had it.

I had to take it to the vet and put it to sleep. Just could not handle it anymore.

Today, I am a little emotional about the whole thing and torn if I did the right thing...

Ladies have you ever had to get rid of an animal cos you just can't take it anymore?

Sorry guys but I really don't need to hear how much you hate your girls cat

So am I really the only one that has ever snapped like this and had a cat put to sleep?

I understand your frustration. Was it a male? Was it neutered? Did you have a scratching pad for it to use?
When they start scratching where you do not want them too, your suppose to pick them up and put them on the scratching pad. You maybe should have looked into declawing, at the very least. We all do hasty things. Try not to dwell on it.

Did something in your behavior or your daily routine change? Like was the cat all of a sudden spending a lot of time alone? Or a new pet or person entering the home? Animals are just like children, they throw fits when they're upset, scared, lonely.

I did have a cat that was taken to a shelter because we couldn't stand it anymore. But that cat made someone bleed on a daily basis. I well knew a cat like that would be put down and not adopted if taken to an animal shelter, but I didn't see another choice at that point. =( I was sad for weeks after that.

What a dumbass you are.

You really think you deserve sympathy? Please. The least you could have done was bring it to a shelter, where a potentially LOVING person would have adopted it and treated the behavioral problem. And just so you know, the peeing could have been from a kidney or bladder infection. But I bet you're too selfish to have thought of that.

Do the world a favor-- 1) Don't ever take in another animal, and 2) Don't reproduce. We already have enough stupid, heartless people here.

EDIT-- to Malice: Who says you can't train a cat not to urinate outside of it's box?? BULLSHIT! ASK ANY VET. It can be done. Educate yourself before you spout off stupid answers!

you had other options, like finding it another home! I hate to get down on you but thats really terrible of you. Here I was feeling bad about having some guys car towed. I'm suprised the vet would even do that. They will usually not put an animal down for a reason such as that. I have had the same problem, and never would have considered what you did. My pets have ruined so much of my stuff but stuff doesn't have feelings. your pet does! Please don't ever get another pet.

That's pretty mean of you to do that to begin with. Yeah, you should feel emotional, you killed something just because you "couldn't handle it anymore." Shoot - if that's how one takes care of things they can't handle, half the people in this world would have been "put to sleep" by now.

You could have given it to a good home or brought it to a shelter. It was cruel what you did.

Had a cat for 14 years, that pissed and **** everywhere. Cat was family. Did not put it down til it passed blood in urine, and I knew that it was too old to start operations. If you adopt a pet, it becomes a part of your family. You love Mom, Dad, Brother, Sister, and pet. Otherwise don't get one. You don't deserve the good times. And you don't deserve to hear about them either.

I've almost had to put my dog to sleep for continuously fighting (& nearly killing) my other dog [ Which is a GOOD reason, unlike peeing indoors ]. But we didn't. I think you shouldn't have put your cat to sleep. A shelter would have been a way better option.
I can't believe you did that. That is horrible. I hope you don't get anymore animals.
Oh and by the way, it's GUILT you're feeling, which you should.

I am hoping this is a joke. Who the hell puts a cat to sleep just because it pees in the house? Give it away, take it to a shelter, maybe..but have it killed?
