I thought I remembered learning this but when I worked it out,
I don't think I did it right,
so if you could help, and show the steps how you did it,
that would be great!! :)
Here's the problem:
3(4y-5)=69
thankyou again!

thankyou all for your help but I came across some more problems I had trouble with...
2(3y+4) = 32 [[y=4]]
the answer was given to us,
I just don't understand how they got it
&& this one too
6x - (3x+7) =29

So I got the ones you guys helped me with Thanks so much!!!
but then I got stuck some more...
26-(4x-11) = -5(x+7)

update #2
3(4y - 5) = 69. Distributing,
12y - 15 = 69. Adding 15,
12y = 84. Dividing by 12,
y = 7.

try these solutions:
for 3(4y-5) = 69
>>>>3(4y-5)/3 = 69/3
>>>>4y-5 = 23
>>>>4y = 23-5
>>>>4y/4 = 28/4
>>>>y = 7
for 3y + 4= 16
>>>3y = 16-4
>>>3y/3 = 12/3
>>>y = 4
for 6x-(3x+7) = 29
>>>6x-3x-7 = 29
>>>3x-7 = 29
>>>3x = 29+7
>>>3x/3 = 36/3
>>>x = 12
apply those values in ur equation for counter checking....

Seeing as you answered and understood the former equations I'm helping you with 26-(4x-11) = -5(x+7) When you multiply a negative x a negative you get a positive Thus 26 - 4x + 11 = -5x - 35 S0 combining terms you get 72 = x. I hope you the best.

first step is to simplify: by dividing both sides by 3
3(4y - 5)/3 = 69/3
that gives you:
(4y - 5) = 23
now use the associative additive and distributive rules to clear the parenthesis.
4y - 5 = 23
now you take the additive inverse of -5 which is +5 and add it to both sides
4y - 5 +5 = 23 +5
that gives you:
4y +/-0 = 28
or: in simplier terms.
4y = 28
4y is actually 4*y which is multipilication so you divide both sides by 4
4y/4 = 28/4
answer is:
y =7
Now you are half down you have to check your answer.
3(4*(7) -5) = 69
3(28 -5) = 69
3(23) = 69
69 = 69
Don't forget to check you answers:

3(4y-5)=69
divide both sides by 3 - anything done to both sides dosnt change the result
4y-5 = 23
Add 5 to both sides
4y = 28
divide by 4
y = 7
so y = 7

26-(4x-11) = -5(x+7)
Start by getting rid of all the parentheses. So distribute the subtraction signs and multiply and whatnot.
26 - 4x + 11 = -5x - 35
Next, combine like terms on each side.
37 - 4x = -35 - 5x
Then move the terms with x in them to one side and the ones without x to the other side.
-4x + 5x = -35 - 37
Combine the terms again, and in this case, it is solved.
x = -72
Hope this helps. :)

3(4y-5)=69
3*4y - 3*5 = 69
12y -15 = 69
12y = 69 + 15
12y = 84
y=84/12 = 7

Use the distributive law.
12y-15=69
Add 15 to both sides.
12y=84
Divide by 12.
y=7
Check
3(4*7-5)=69
3(28-5)=69
3(23)=69
69=69
