Self-help, do it yourself magazines? Do you think they'd benefit from such magazines and books?

By no means was this a question to hate on welfare recepients. It was simply an idea/suggestion.

I don't think literature is necessarily the place to put funds and resources.

First thing to do is stop rewarding lifetime welfare recipients for having more kids.

Sadly I know that many of them have children just for the extra money. They don't just collect welfare either, they go to food banks, etc. There are even programs at Christmas that give free toys to poor kids. They play the system, and the churches and everyone else.

Granted, I'm not talking about families who genuinely need the assistance, and no kids should suffer because their parents are lowlifes.

But , what needs to be fixed is that if a person is on welfare when they conceive a child, that child needs to be put up for adoption so that a loving family who actually wants a child and can afford to take care of it will give that child a real home and a real chance in life.

If you are on welfare you know you cannot provide for that child yourself, so why are you getting pregnant?
Again, another free giveaway is planned parenthood gives away free condoms. There's no excuse.

maybe. I think more people on welfare should be connected with the sites/numbers of places that specialize in GEDs or college courses for people with low-income.

I don't support the work program in WI, even though it was an idea that seemed good it probably hurt more than helped. if parents are poor and on welfare, its not good to send them to work hours away. this is how the cycle repeats- when children don't have enough time with their parents/caretakers they do not learn, are not disciplined, and grow up to be unsuccessful .

Literature? Yes! We should supply them with job applications. Maybe some books on how to fill out job applications. We could give them pamphlets on where and when to fill out said job applications.

(Note: Not intended towards the small minority of people that have a legitimate need for assistance. Just the decrepit, lazy, generational recipients.)

No, just give them addresses to the local libraries so they can look the stuff up themselves.

What we do need to do is random drug tests for welfare recipients. What we need to do is give them free condoms.

Guess what? I'm not even a neocon. I vote straight Democratic.

Remember welfare reform under the Clinton administration? Well it stopped with the Bush administration. Bush and his cronies want to keep minorities down by keeping them dependent on welfare, food stamps, Link cards and FEMA trailers.

They're on the dole so why would they bother to read and try and improve themselves? That's what's so great about the Republicans is that they value individual initiative!

Maybe, depends on the individual. Also, it is hard to know what the average reading level is.

Giving people literature is one of the least effective forms of training.. but it is comparatively cheap.

Most of people who receive assistance are children, the elderly and the disabled!

You could use a little help on understanding what you are talking about!

That's actually not a bad idea. I'm sure some would read it.

If they would or could read them. Better solution, forced labor for pay, not sitting at home watching springer. If they had to say.... clean the streets or wash sewers for their monry watch how fast they would get jobs, or get off welfare. I work for my money why can't they?
