study... that is obvious
never sit in the back of your classes. Sit in front where the instructor will remember seeing your face. Ask lots of questions. If you are confused on a subject make sure you ask. the only dumb question is the one that is never asked. you never know there maybe some one in your class that has the same question but not the guts to ask!

Make use of the tutors avaliable on campus our college has tutoring available for all sorts of math and science classes.

Take a Phys ed class. I know it sounds strange and I didn't listen at first but it really helps sitting through class if you know that later in the day you will have time to release some energy and stress. And if it is already on your schedule then you make sure you get there.

Eat healthy. It will be really tempting to eat all the junk food availiable. Beware of the campus cafeteria. The all you can eat stuff is the main cause of the freshman 15.

Use the instructors office hours if you are still needing help. the great thing about a community college (at least ours) is that the instructors really want you to suceed and they will help you get to where you want to go. The best thing is they know who is doing well in the class and can sometimes help you find a person to help you. Maybe someone that took the class before that would tutor you if there isn't any readily available. Instructors are the best reference material for any subject - right next to your textbook.

Get plenty of sleep - no playing all night b4 an exam.

Be sure to make time for yourself.

Get involved in a clud or organization on campus. It is proven that even though it takes some of your time students who are involved on campus have better grades. Besides it is a great way to make friends and just enjoy yourself. I am an ambassador at our college and love getting to meet the next years students and telling them what is so great about our campus!

Remember that friends are great references too.... I have a friend that is great in math but hates english. I am just the opposite so we exchange. I help her with her english and she helps me with algebra. But I wouldn't know her if I didn't get out there and meet new people.

One last thing! and it is important.
On the first day of class make a friend - exchange numbers. I say this because if you miss a class for any reason, then you have a contact that you can reach right away to find out what was discussed and assigned.

Keep on top of things, don't get behind on assignments or study, attend all classes and labs, ask questions in classes and labs, get a tutor, take copious notes, use any study guides that are available for your courses, get advice from people who did the same courses last year, join a study group (with other serious students), see if sample exams are available and if so use them to guide you in studying, always get clarification if you are uncertain about any topics. Also, get some exercise, eat a good diet, get enough sleep, postpone partying until you have finished these courses, and set aside some regular time for relaxation. I hope this is of some help.

Your question is essentially rhetorical, eh: obviously be very diligent and disciplined, while managing to maintain your health and sanity.

But with the whimsy becoming a very judgmental Leo, i can't help but suggest the following:

1. Have a natal chart brimming with Virgo and Capricorn
2. Never try to overcome tendencies indicating the presence of OCD
3. Make meth a friend for those long study sessions.
4. No "social life", whatever, beyond a bare minimum --and perhaps an appropriately gendered blow up doll
5. Make friends with the proper computer hacker geek to amend your final grades as needed :))))

I just went through this getting into Nursing school. You need to put your priorities in order. Don't ruin your goals by drinking and partying every weekend like many college students do. The ones who get accepted into any kind of field are the ones that are: motivated, driven, focused, and dedicated. Just do your absolute best in all your classes. try to become interested in the subjects you're not too excited about. If you are having trouble understanding something, go to your teachers office hours- they always want to help their students. Good Luck!

Study hard, party less, pay attention in class, take lots of notes, make up a study group with fellow class members, get a tutor if need be, always pay attention to detail. You'll never go wrong.

Good luck in school

There are lots of good tips here in previous posts. I agree that time management and good study practices are the most important. Taking a serious interest in the subjects, talking to your instructor, and forming good study groups helps a lot.

There are excellent mnemonic devices to use to help your study. You might get a book on mnemonics and learn good study habits.

Study, take advantage of tutoring services and office hours for your profs. If you are confused about something talk to the prof about it. Make sure the prof knows your name and knows you are always in class, that way if you do get a bad grade you may be able to retake a test because the prof knows that you are trying.
