My last employer rarely gave us meal breaks. My friend still works there but is looking for another job. She put her resume on craigslist and was told byher employer to remove it or she would have to let her go...is that illegal

In most states employees are "at-will" employees, meaning that they can be fired anytime for any reason (other than discrimination) and employees can quit without notice.

As for breaks, that would depend on the state that you're in. I would advise you to contact a labor attorney.

It really wasn't very smart for your friend to post her resume on craigslist. Most employers would fire her, I wouldn't blame them. In the future, tell her to go through a temp agency. Temp agencies are confidential and won't disclose any information to any company without your explicit permission.

It may not be illegal to fire her, but she'd probably be eligible for unemployment ....
