I think it probably depends upon where you are. Where I live, it could mean more than one thing. It could simply mean that they met at the mall and went to a movie. Or it could mean much more.

To me it just means that Travis and Emily each came alone, but left together. It doesn't necessarily mean anything more than that. Maybe they just went out for coffee. Some people just have over-active imaginations.

It usually depends on the person saying it. Hooked up is they either made out or did more then that. Hooked up rarely is anything less then that.
Anything less is like "They went out" or "Hung out". Ya know?
Hooked up is basically saying, if they were married to other people, them "hooking up" would of been a hot topic during divorce court.

a variety, sometimes sex, sometimes kissing, sometimes just a date...it all depends on the age group or just the person in general saying the phrase

lol its means they hit the sack... if you know what i mean...
well, i guess it could just mean that they started off as friends or strangers, but by the end it was a date... it might not mean specifially that they had intercourse... it probably depends on the age...
middle school on down: date
high school on up: sex
