To add to the previous answer... Pack LIGHT!
Very light. You'd be amazed how heavy your pack becomes... what seems manageable when you leave your home and get on that plane becomes unbearable when you're walking through the street trying to find your hostel... and perhaps a little lost. And get a very comfortable pack. Eagle Creek makes a great pack design specifically for women... very important. A pack designed for a man will kill your back - relying more on your shoulders than resting the weight on your hips.

When packing... try to get by on just one pair of jeans and if your traveling in winter + one pair of pants. Summer two shorts. Do your laundry once a week... so, pack a weeks worth of undies. Leave large bottles of shampoo, etc. at home. just bring travel size and buy more as you need it.

Wish you luck! You'll have the time of your life!!! :-)

- Do a lot of preparation in advance. Collect information about accommodation, transportation and other information that will come in handy. This will save you time and money searching for it during your trip. You don't have to plan everything exactly in advance. I'd even advice you NOT to plan too much, to just have a rough plan and leave space for changes. You might find out about something interesting you want to see during the trip or something unexpected might come up to change your plans.

- Pack light. Take as little with you as possible. Choose light clothes over heavier ones. Take only a few sets of clothes with you and expect to do laundry once or twice per week.

- Make sure to have a good backpack, one that will not hurt you even if it gets heavy.

- Depending on which part of Europe you'll be visiting, there might be different currencies in different countries. Make sure to check the rates well, search for exchange offices that offer a good rate and don't take extra fees.

- Make sure that someone back home knows roughly where you are each time. At least let them know in what country you'll be at each time. This is just a precaution, in the unlikely case that something (an accident for example) comes up. They'll at least know where to look for you.

- And, when in Rome, do as the Romans. :)

No advice, just one request, when you are in Prague, get a beer and sit on a bench overlooking the two new statues in front of the Kafka museum. Its on the castle side just a little ways from the Charles bridge. (grin)
