There is a button on the printer that says "on-line" if that is turned off, then the printer is off line. Next time you may want to tell us the brand, age of printer. You may also do a search on-line to troubleshoot it. Good luck.

First, be sure your printer's cable is plugged in to your PC, or, if wireless, that you have a strong wireless signal. Click START-> Printers and Faxes. A window will result listing printers you have configured for your PC. Find the one that corresponds to your local printer - it usually has a checkmark next to it. If the icon looks faded (sort of grayish), then your PC is not properly connected to your printer, or your printer is turned off or off-line. Unplug the power from your printer, wait a minute, the apply power again. Then, restart you PC to see if that solves your problem.
