Wouldn't be funny if the final four teams from last season's playoff chase were the four worst teams in the league?

That would suit me fine. Three of the four teams I could never bring myself to cheer for.

As long as you mean "funny" in the ironic way. And I hope you're not hinting at another conspiracy theory. LOL. I don't like those much.
I think people respect instant results. It comes down to the old "Rome wasn't built in a day." adage. It's only been two years since the lockout. I believe it's very possible that teams who go to the Stanley Cup playoffs one season might not even make the playoffs the next season for various reasons, such as everyone not being used to the cap and a large amount of players moving around to different teams.
