--The Saigon regime was set up as a proxy for the French
-the Vietnam conflict was a popular revolt against this dictatorship (i.e. this was a CIVIL WAR, not "communist aggression)
--Following the American departure, the civil war continued until the Saigon dictatorship fell.
--Other than a couple of relatively short, minor conflicts, Vietnam has been at peace since.
Does Bush EVER check his facts? Or does he just go ahead and lie for the fun of it?

amazin'g--I agree that service in the National Guard is service to our country--and should be respected as such, which I do. but that does not change the fact that during Vietnam, bush and others with the "pull" required (mis)used Guard service as a way of staying out of Vietnam.

No, he shouldn't be lying. He's merely parroting the conservative fantasy about the Vietnam War -- that it was possible to win the war, and that there actually was a South Vietnam democracy movement. The Vietnamese were never going to stop fighting to free their country from foreign interference and oppression -- would we? I hope not!
We killed millions of their people and accomplished nothing. Conservatives are nothing short of horrible for advocating the slaughter of even more of them, just because they were "Communist". After how we treated them -- forced evacuations of villages and forced moves to tent cities, napalming and agent oranging their people, mass bombing their countryside, and propping up a government that was killing and oppressing them. Most Vietnamese didn't care whether their country wound up under the communists or the Martians -- as long as it wasn't us.

Bush could have very well served in vietnam, Bush senior was high up in the cia and could have had his son working for them during vietnam. I know when I worked for them I did stuff, that if I were to become president it would be unheard of too. Just because there is no record of something doesn't mean it didn't happen!
Clinton was the one who dodged the draft, not only did he dodge it, he did it while in russia and china, who didn't like us at the time, the same people he GAVE american land to, so if anyone should have been executed for high treason its Bill Clinton

It was a pretty common thing for guys to get out of serving in the Army by joining the National Guard.
Did you hear what Bush said in that speech? How if we pull out of Iraq now we will dishonor our servicemen? It's just another one of his lies to convince the american public that we should stay in Iraq.

He dodged Vietnam as many prosperous little ones do, via starting to be a member of the Nat'l look after. the purpose of the look after is to guard American soil. incredible that Bush ducked Vietnam via starting to be a member of the look after, yet as President, he sent the look after foreign places, leaving us of a's borders defenseless. how many prosperous little ones joined the look after from 2001 to 2004, just to earnings that they have got been going to be shipped off to Iraq and Afghanistan? They probable experience betrayed via Bush.

I think that Bush doesn't bother checking his facts because he thinks that the majority of the American public will not know what the facts are. He was believed by a lot of people about WMD etc... Why shouldn't they believe what he says now?

It amazes me tho think that so many shallow thinkers on this forum believe that serving in the National Guard is equated to dodging Vietnam. Guard service was, and is, honorable service to our country. You all are insulting the millions who have served and the millions who are protecting you right now!
As to your "facts"...
"everyone"??

People are still very much persecuted for their beliefs in Viet Nam...though war should never be an option in my opinion. Love is the only way to stop hatred.

We gave the green light for the overthrow of Vietnam's government and already had US military, who had been there since the 1950's. Eisenhower and Nixon sent them in!
And tell Idiot Bush that the "Killing Fields" were in Cambodia, not Vietnam, and it was Nixon who did nothing!
