In my engineering class, we had to pick team leaders. Everyone didn't want to be one, so they put it one me. Now everyday my engineering teacher asks every team leader to stand up in front of the class and say a certain thing (e.g. problem solving methods). It's been 3 days and everyday i fear that someone is going to laugh at me. I want to overcome this, because if I force someone else to be team leader then everyone will think i am mean. What should I do??

1) people laughing at you is almost always good. We like people that make us laugh, even if its because they are being stupid.

2) to help you get over it, tell them a joke every time to make them laugh - get jokes from the internet.

3) you place way too much importance on what other people think. You are not in physical danger if they laugh at you, they cant hire or fire you, and they are no better than you so if they pass judgement it means nothing. So, do something to make yourself realise you dont care what they think. Wear ugly stained cloths to class, or mess up your hair, if anyone questions your behavior just tell them thats what you felt like (not) doing. This is america buddy.

Many people have trouble getting up in front of people to talk, it's only natural. Here's some advice someone once gave me:

FOCUS ON THE TOPIC.

The real reason you are up there is to convey information. Focus on the topic at hand, don't worry about what other people think. If someone does laugh at you, laugh with them. You should continue to be team leader, just remind yourself each time you get up and talk, you are overcoming that fear, so that it will be easier every time after that. It's a good experience, and most adults have to do this at work or church or at a wedding/ funeral service, so it is good practice for you for the future. Don't give up. Your classmates must have seen some leadership qualities in you, or they would not have picked you. That is actually a great compliment from them. It's OK if you are scared, you can do it. Just say what you have to say, and then it's over. Piece of cake. Good luck.....

Be prepared! Also, take advantage of the situation. Make this a challenge for you that you can and will overcome. If anyone laughs at you, they are immature. Being a team leader is great and can teach you many social skills that great to acquire! Being prepared, CONFIDENT and talking intelligently will give you respect around your other classmates and much for yourself!!

Every good administrative person I have worked with has asked what we think about: efficiency, productivity, solutions for problems. Ask your Team what they think needs additional discussion. Involving them puts their ideas out there for the class. I don't think they would laugh at themselves.

Your team could secretly try to outdo the others with your (researched!) topics. That involves "team work", confidentiality....just a thought.

Or, do none of the above and picture the entire class naked. If anyone laughs, you can guffaw along with them via your secret weapon imagination.

good luck, you'll knock them out.

I found that smoking a little pot helped me with my public speaking. In fact it worked so well that most of the time they would tell me to shut up and sit down.
