Is it from all the advertisement?
Do the websites pay Google to have them in the Search engine?
Just super curious, I'm never sure how the computer network operates. Or whatever it's called. To me it's all just big words.

They earn a great percentage of their revenue through advertisments. Websites do not have to pay to be listed within the search engine, but the "featured" websites on the right hand column after you search pay to be "featured".

Real websites, something like zwinky or something, say they're free, but they need money to go on so they advertise, and you can buy some things to get money. obviously google's been selling some stuff, its a good way to keep your website up and in shape.

they not only make money from ads on their own site

any site you see ads with the google or 'adsense' logo in the corner are controlled by google and google gets a percentage of the advertising rate for that site
