All I can say is when your labor has been started.... a way to speed up labor is walking. Walk...Walk....Walk. When you get another contraction, just stop and wait till it passes,do the breathing technique and let it pass. I did not use any drugs at all I just went natural. Some mom's need drugs, but I just figured woman a thousand years ago even 5 hundred years ago had nothing, and plus I wanted my baby to have the best chance coming into the world. So good luck my dear you will do fine.

From my experience I would say eat as large a meal as you can stomach before going in that night, lots of protein, but no dairy. Unless you go very quickly, labor induction can take hours, and many hospitals will stick you with clear fluids and an IV, which generally won't hack it if you're in for a long labor. If your labor takes the standard 18-24 hours for a first timer, you'll be glad you at least started on real food. AND ask for food if you're hungry, in more and more hospitals, they are coming around to the idea that women in labor need real fuel. You may get cream cheese or peanut butter on crackers, but it beats chicken broth hands down.

If the hospital is giving you a prostaglandin for the first 24 hours, then you'll probably be offered a real breakfast :)

You don't usually need to worry too much about eating before an epidural. If this were a c-section planned with general anesthesia, it would be different, they're a little more paranoid about that. Also, you usually don't feel like eating huge meals once you are in active labor so you generally want a decent meal before you head in for all that hard work.

Is there any reason why you're not going the full 42 weeks? Is there some concrete sign the baby is in distress? I'm asking because most first time babies take 41 weeks and one day to arrive any way, and as long as your placenta is in good shape and the heart rate is good, going to 42 weeks is pretty reasonable if you're sure of your conception date. (i.e. I'm just concerned because everyone in my family who has had a prostaglandin/pitocin induction has not been thrilled with the experience so I'm just wondering if there's a medical need to induce.) If you do have a medical reason to induce, we might have some more specific suggestions for your situation.

I also recommend a real robe and walking shoes or slippers and maybe a swimsuit for the bathtub if they have one. Also, ask if your hospital will let you do telemetry monitoring, ( you still get the continuous monitoring, but the belt around your waist transmits the information wirelessly) you'll want to try and walk around as much as possible to let gravity help speed things up and so early contractions are more comfortable. Being stuck in bed for early labor for the time before they'll give you an epidural is no fun.

Try not to eat much before you go. Depending how you react to the medication it can make you sick (I did anyways).
Take the basics tooth brush/paste, perhaps shampoo if they let you shower, hairbrush, makeup (if you really care to look your best after), slippers, under gear, baggy clothes for the ride home and couple of baby sleepers and diapers, perhaps a camera. Take plenty of pads with you in case they give you uncomfortable ones to wear.
Being induced is really not that much fun. Contractions can happen one after the other with no relief in between so be sure to ask for an Epidural as soon as you can. If you wait too long to ask for one, you'll be doing the natural childbirth ( I missed out on these wonder drugs when I had mine 16yrs ago). Good luck

first off congrats!!!! i was induced what seems like yesterday- which was really 7 short months ago. on the way my hubby and i stopped and picked up breakfast to eat once we got there. unfortunately, they wouldnt let me. i had no complications and i was still not allowed to eat. maybe your dr. wont be so strict, but just to be safe you might want to call ahead! what else... bring a word search. games are nice but labor tends to move quickly during an induction, so anything that takes to long might not work out. bring your slippers. i know afterwards my hubby and son were sleeping and i went out in the hall to walk around and talk to the nurses... getting out of that bed and room felt soooo good. other than that you'll spend a LOT of time trying to sleep, so maybe a comfy pillow from home and some loungewear. oh and i had a whole foot long subway sub afterwards that just knocked my socks off! good luck and enjoy!!!

Take your cell phone, couple of magazines... leave a bag ready and have someone take it to you once you deliver. The thing is that you don't deliver in the room you are going to be discharged out of, so your belongings are going to be a burden to you. Eat something light, like soup, fruit, small sandwich and stuff, just don't eat anything after 7 p.m. Drink water ( they won't give you any water once you go into labor and you will be very thirsty). In your bag, pack as if you're going to relax for 2 days (lose fitting clothing, feminine pads, comfortable slippers, your make up bag with all your toiletries)... and of course don't forget your baby's clothing. Oh, don't forget the camera... so you can take a couple of pictures of your little bundle. Good luck.

Being induced is good in the sence you know round about when your haveing a baby. Being induced causes your labor to be way more intense and painfull i suggest you only snack on healthy things once you get to the hospital.if this is your first child i wouldn't want to scare you or talk of the gross stuff just trust a mother who has been induced twice one without epidural & one with epidural. I think all women should know the real feeling of child birth,if not induced! But being induced causing the pain to be way more intense. I strongley suggest you take an epidural when you dialate at least a 7 this way you get the true feelings of child barring & after an epidural you can relax so you wont be so tired & trust me you can enjoy the experience of haveing your baby & spending time with he/she after being born. now for a mother that naturally goes into labor i suggest they bare the pain without epidural if possible. I bared my first child naturally with no medication except the inducer (potossin) & they broke my water he was 7lbs 14 oz 21 in full term. 18 hrs of hard labor i was exhausted & sick afterword too close to death. The worst experience ever! My second child i was induced by a pill put on my uterious to ripen it & gave potossin, they broke my water & i took an epidural. This was the best experience ever. i saw everything i wanted to see of her being born, i was not exhausted, and comptley aware demerol & phenegrin only make you drowsy & take the edge off pain you can doze between contractions but you loose reality with this medication so be careful of the pain relievers you choose with an inducer! Congraluations & keep your stress levels down to stay relaxed! only take you something comfortable to sleep in, maxxie pads u like, comfortable undaware, socks or house shoes, a brush, hair tie, & things you like to bathe in that make you feel happy, avoid perfumed items they will only irritate your inscions & irrate your baby, iodine is wonderful for a sitz bath after birth, a bag you have packed for your baby, & most of all remember your camera & car seat, Possibly a pillow if you have a preferance extra bag for your gifts you recieve in the hospital. i suggest you go ahead & prepare, pack a bag! This is the most wonderful experience in the world!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, you could be in the hospital for up to a few days, so bring shampoo and a brush and things like that, and an outfit for you and baby to leave in. The hospital will provide food for you, and they also provide diapers, pacifiers, clothes and blankets for baby! If there are snacks that you prefer, you should bring those though because you definitely will be hungry if you are going to nurse your baby! And don't forget the car seat...they won't discharge you from the hospital without it!

Eat a good dinner - no greasy, spicy, or saucy stuff.
Pack all your labor paraphenalia, and two extra pillows [ in bright pillowcases so they don't get mixed up with hospital ones ]. Use the pillow for your head, and hubby's for a nap, then after to help support baby while you feed. [ hospital ones have plastic on them, let them do the 'dirty' work. ]
Pack money for food for coach, and some sandwiches, fruit, and a sweet or granola bars - nothing stinky, so won't upset laboring stomachs.
Pack a complete going home outfit for mom and baby, and leave that suitcase in the car until you need it, or are in the post delivery room.

They dont let you eat once you are there, so I highly recommend eating something. I ate grilled cheese before my labor. The last thing you want to be is hungry!

Don't worry about bringing too much with you to the hospital... travel shampoo and soap, toothbrush, and don't forget the camera! You will be so busy gazing at your little one that nothing else will hold your attention!!

Congrats and goodluck!!

You will not be permitted to eat, so please make sure to get a meal in before you get induced because you don't know how long it will take overall to deliver. I would also try to get some rest before going in for the same reason.

When I gave birth to my daughter I was so excited I didn't really get any sleep until I went home.
