Senior Citizens - Who doesn't know what a troll is?

The Internet is full of them.

Troll as it's used here probably derived from a chain of usage.

Trawl is a method of fishing... moving through the water with lines baited.

Came to be trolling later with smaller boats.

Then it came into slang usage among truckers. They described guys who hung out in mens' rooms in rest areas as trolls, because they were 'trolling' for other men.

Trolls on the Web are doing much the same thing, but they're usually looking for a way disrupt, or shock.

Frequently profanity, graphic sex, or just meaningless questions and answers are what they're fishing for.

Thanks for the clarification. From its use and context I had the idea but your explanation was helpful to us all. There definitely are rude graphic trolls in P&S also. I advocate blocking, reporting otherwise it will like letting thugs take over Y/A.

while i became into in undemanding college my mom offered me my first troll. She finally made a gown for it out of a fabric scrap. (She cut back aout a circle, & cut back holes for palms & head, & someway have been given it on. I later had to cut back a slit a methods down the lower back, to get it off to bathe.) I wasn't properly even then, & trolls grew to alter into quite of a pastime for me. i ultimately had 24 (including 2 tiny 'toddler' ones from boxes of Cracker Jack)! i think of she later gave me a colourful crimson-haired batman troll. yet, my well-known became right into a extensive troll with easy orange, short hair, with felt clothing . . . (i think of mom offered that one for me, too. It got here donning yellow pants over a crimson shirt, with a million yellow suspender that matched the pants, if I properly bear in mind). I made all the different trolls clothing from extra fabric scraps, and picked up empty shoe boxes that I cut back doorways & abode windows in for his or her homes. Thanks for info and they have deleted my brother's acct and he is on his 8th acct and they think it is teenagers from school and he told me to block anyone that has no questions or answers and very few points.

.....OR it may have derived from ogres in fairy tales...trolls lived under bridges and terrorized people....and were mean spirited, evil nuisances set out to create havoc.
