My normal bank that I have my savings account with (my parents also) doesn't have online access. I think some of the bigger bank corporations would have higher interest rates and online access for me.

I only want to put 2,500-3,000 dollars in my CD. How should I go about this?

Do I have to put money from my savings into my checking and then into the CD at the other bank?

You can have a CD at a different bank. Some online banks can debit your existing savings account by EFT (this is like direct deposit in reverse) so that you do not need to use a checking account.

You can open a cd with any bank anywhere in the world. Most banks will allow you to transfer funds from your current account to the new account after the account has been set up.

I would check the Bank Rate Monitor for the highest yeilds nationwide.

A good place to invest your savings and for cd's is ING Direct, an online savings institution. Very reputable and competitive yields.

Hope that helps,

At 40 six, a CD won't do the job. They pay so little, you will actually ought to save 20,000 a three hundred and sixty 5 days to have something by using sixty six. Do you have a 401k at paintings?? this is the place i'd start up. i'd start up maxing that out. If no 401k, then an IRA. and you should be making an investment in equities - mutual money. returned, do the max 5k a three hundred and sixty 5 days. At 40 six, the time for dawdling is long on account that previous. Saving for retirement is a few thing you start up thinking approximately on your 20's, and 30's. 40 six isn't too previous due, yet you're gonna have save till it hurts - in case you elect to have a cushty retirement.

No, you can open a cd anywhere, and you dont have to have a checking or savings account there. Although, they will try very hard to sell you a checking account or savings account!

You can have as many CDs in as many banks as you like .
There are no restrictions on that as long as you use your real name .
Go to the bank you are interested in and ask them how their protocols work to get one .
