The brownish blood is just "older" blood... this is normal. The "goopy" part is just clots... this too is normal.

Changing your pad will vary as some days may be heavier than others. Just change when you feel comfortable. You'll do fine.

If you have leaks, you can usually rinse the blood out with cold water. Be sure to use cold as warm or hot will sometimes "set" the blood stain in. You can also use something like liquid hand soap to help rinse out the blood.

To know about when you will start again, count 28 days from the first day you started bleeding this month. That is when you should expect to start again, give or take a day or two. Some people will start feeling like they can't get enough sleep around the week before they start.

It is best that you do not take ibuprophen, or aspirin, or Aleve during your period. These drugs actually thin the blood and prevent clotting and will make your period heavier and sometimes last a little longer. Stick to Tylenol (acetaminophen) for cramping.

As far as the mood swings... the best thing I have found for my own mood swings is to stay away from other people!!! Mood swings are normal but if they are really bad, you may want to talk to your doctor. They are caused by fluctuating hormones and if you feel they are serious and unmanageable, your doctor may want to run some blood tests to make sure all your hormones are at normal levels.

The brown grey blood is okay, your body is sort of clensing itself so its old nasty stuff. Goopy blood is okay too, these are clots. Some are bigger clots than others, not a big deal. Change your pad when it seems to be full or you want to freshen up. Rinse the clothes you leaked on with cold water and scrub with soap right away, this is the bad thing about pads...you leak all over the place, especially at night. You will usually start your period in 25 -31 days from the last one...depends on your body. You might not be regular though since this is your first and it may skip a month or more before you get your next one. You will start to be able to tell by how your body feels when your about ready to start your period. Ibprofeen wont help lighten your period, but will take some of the cramps away. Mood swings are just one of those things that happen, its hormonal and you can't control it, just try and remember that your moody and don't bite peoples heads off! Good luck! :)

First of all yes the color changes is normal especially towards the end of your period. The goopy part as you call it is blood clots, they range in different sizes. It is just the lining of your cervix shedding. (basically that's what a period is anyway)Now if you get any stains soak in cool water never hot and then try washing them out with peroxide, that usually helps. Also you just started your period so the next few months will be irregular so I cant tell you technically when you will come back on. You need to change your pad according to how heavy you bleed. When the pad starts to be soaked with blood you need to change it before it is fully saturated, Or if you notice an odor. Last but not least nothing over the counter will shorten your periods but ibuprofen will definitely help the cramps. Congratulations and good luck!!!

1. Brown usually means old blood, so it's ok..
2. That's just larger pieces of uterine tissue.
3. Whenever you want to. there is no set amount.
4. Wash them in COLD water with soap. DON'T use hot water.
5. It will be irregular for the first couple of years. And there really won't be any way to know when it is going to come. After that most women get it about every 28 days.
6. It won't lighten your period, but it will help with cramps.
7. To get rid of cramps: take Ibprofen, Midol, or Pamparin; soak in a warm bath; drink hot tea; put a heating pad on your stomach; try simple yoga; some people say eating bananas helps.
8. I don't know if you can control the mood swings since they are all related to your changing horomone levels.

Good luck.

Brownish gray and gloopy is normal.

You should change your pad everytime it gets full so that you don't leak. For me, I flow pretty heavily the first couple of days so I have to change my pad every 3-4 hours.

Use COLD water (so the stain doesn't set), detergent, and an old toothbrush to scrub out the stains.

Ibuprofin will NOT make your period lighter - that is a myth.

There are all different brands of meds out there that help with cramps, you just have to try a few before you find one that works for you. Alleve works best for me. What also works is putting a heating pad on your pelvic area. You can also buy stick on heating pads that activate when they stick to your body. They last for up to 8 hours and you wear them under your clothes. (They have helped me to get through work many a day)

As for mood swings, if you are finding them really severe, you can see a doctor and there are prescriptions to help with that.

Hope this helped! Welocme to womanhood!
