can anyone give me step by step instructions on how to change the brake pads on my 1996 ford explorer sport?

If you have to ask for step by step instructions on the internet, do you really think you will be able to trust your brakes when you're done?
Do yourself a favor. Buy a Chilton's or Hayes Maintenance manual at a local auto parts store. It will have detailed instructions with pictures to let you properly change your brake pads.

The best thing would be to buy a service manual from either Chiltons, Haynes, or your Ford dealer. That way they will have pictures and all the info to do the job. Good luck with it.
