Would I get caught if I made up an social security number. Do they check it?

If you are going for financial aid, they would definitely catch it. Also, if you make up a number, it might belong to someone else and you could be in major trouble for identity fraud. It's a really poor idea.

They don't check. In fact, unless you work on campus, you can refuse to give them your social security number, and they will have to keep track of you by some other number.

If you plan on applying for any financial aid, you need to provide your SSN. Why would you give a fake one anyways (unless you werent a US citizen).

They do require it, or at least state schools do. I dont know if youd get caught with a fake, but it seems like you could get into a lot of trouble.

Yes they do, and that is fraud... what ever reason your hiding it for, you will get in more trouble for making one up.
If someone finds out later they would take away your degree.... it's just plan stupid.

I'm pretty sure they do, why would you want to lie about it anyway??
