I think this is just at the discussion stage and isn't it 18 years?
I can understand many young drivers being angry at this but I think we have to accept the statistics that road accidents/death are mostly caused by young drivers - quite often within days/weeks of getting their licence. We have had quite a lot of deaths in my area and it seems to be young drivers showing off to their friends. Very natural, but very dangerous.

Is that in the uk? please tell me in my experince its not always the younger that are the worse at driving some right arses i have met are middle aged men (an a couple of women) and the elderly don't get me started on how they drive!
The government are not doing it for safety only to keep people off the roads since there are too many cars.
If you can get a job at 16 you should be able to drive to it i'm 19 i have never had an accident or run over anything i'm safe and it was a 45 year old man who run into the back of my mates car causing her to go into hospital don't fall for all the sterotypes. The age law won't change the accidents and when its enforced you will see that.

I don't think that will pass. Are parents supposed to drive their kids back and forth to and from college. It is thought out very well. I do think 18 should be the minimum, with manditory drivers ed in school or a private one. Schools charge WAY too much for driver's ed so a lot of parents cannot afford to have their kids take it, so the schools need to shoulder some of the responsibilty. Let low-income kids take the class for free/low cost. I'm not sure about the rest of the country, but in Washington state the law is that drivers under the age of 18 cannot have other passengers in their cars unless they are a parent or a sibling, but a lot of times they are not caught and still end up killing a whole car full. A lot of the responsibility still rests with the parents and the teens themselves. Most of the wrecks are caused by kids that are handed cars instead of having to work for them. Kids that have to pay for their own cars, gas and insurance tend to take better care of them.

Just an idea at the moment ,
But why should they have to wait untill there 21 , by the sounds of it the driving test is harder than what it was , so by rights they should be better drivers
In fact I whould go as far as to say , that young people should learn to drive while at school , and the many aspects that go with driving

It doesn't matter what age the limit is you will still get teenage joy riders driving like maniacs.
What should be done is what they do in America and give drivers ed in schools and learn people to drive and maybe the 17 year olds wont drive stupidly. This may or may not stop joy riders and if it doesn't that instead of a slap on the wrist send them to prison.

I support it. The biggest number of accidents is caused by drivers 16 yrs of age.
I think teens should be able to get their permit when they're 16 and 17...but in order to take the driving test and get their license, they need to be 21.

I think it will save countless lives.
Too many teens treat a car like a toy and rightly so, they are too immature to take other people's lives into their hands!

It's not a new law, it's just an idea. I don't think it's a very good idea. If you agree with me, tell your MP.
