um i don;t know wt to say,there alot of muslims who r just wt they r but some really enact there religion like follow it and some just have it like the name is just following them , i don;t know any way

Yes they are both Muslims. So are many other celebrities that we don't know about because they don't seem to be Muslims. Akon was born in Senegal but came to the US when he was young. T-Pain is part of the Nation of Islam founded by Elijah Muhammad. Common and Ghost Face Killah are Muslims as well. Eman the famous Super model is also Muslim.

The "Black Muslims" associated with Malcolm X arose during the civil rights movement in the 1960's. Disaffected African-Americans saw Christianity as a tool of their oppressive slave masters and wanted to find a religion to reconnect to their African roots. While most of their original people actually practiced Voodoo or similar tribal religions, they found Islam as an alternative religion. Many of them converted to Islam in prison. This includes Malcolm X. In the beginning these converts were devout Muslims, but the group quickly changed into a corrupted order consumed by greed and power. This is what drove Malcolm X to leave the group and why he was assassinated. In modern times it has become popular for young black males who reject white society to convert to Islam, in name only. Especially while in prison. Many rappers perpetuate their gangster image, so whether or not they have been to prison they adopt the customs of the prison converts. Among this group Islam is not a true faith but a protest against Christianity and White culture. Which is why they do not abide by the rules and restrictions of Islam.
