You're boyfriend having an erection while asleep is perfectly normal. Healthy men experience up to four or five erections per night throughout their lives, though their frequency and intensity are greatest around adolescence.
The technical name for nighttime erections is "nocturnal penile tumescence." In one study, researchers found that these nightly erections occurred during "dream sleep," also known as REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. What's still unknown is whether the content of dreams has any influence on whether or not you get an erection.
It has been speculated, that "nocturnal penile tumescence" has positive effects. The increased blood flow during erections brings oxygenated blood to the penis that may keep its tissues healthy.
Since "nocturnal penile tumescence" is normal in healthy men, doctors often test for it to find the primary cause in cases of erectile dysfunction. Many long-term erection problems have a physical cause, such as lack of blood flow from blocked arteries, diabetes, or smoking. Men with long-term erection problems will eventually stop having "nocturnal penile tumescence."

This actually is very common. That and when they wake up.
I'm sure that it can do with what they dream about. But medically speaking this has to do with the blood circulation. When the blood really starts pumping it pumps to all areas...including the penis. An erection is caused by a flow of blood to the penis. Any number of things can cause blood flow over and beyond to these areas to cause an erection.
It does not have to be sexually related for this to happen!

Rest assured, it's completely normal.
It might be an erotic dream -- and no, you cannot make him stop having them -- or just some mystery of the body. Most men have several erections during the day, even when they're concentrating on work and aren't thinking about sex. Go figure....

You don't need a doctor to tell you that it's entirely normal for young men to have erections during sleep. It's totally normal. Next time you see one, just play along and have fun instead of thinking "oops, maybe I'll have to call 911"

Approximately every 90 minutes during sleep the human body will show signs of arousal. Men get erections women become lubricated.
There is a medical name for this very natural occurrence but I can't seem to remember it.

that question doesn't need a doctor. Every normal healthy guy gets erect about every 45 minutes while asleep. So, don't give it a second thought. Though a little groping never hurts - hehe.

Basically erections r caused by sexual excitments, so there is no need of worry, and in some cases during erections one can feel little or more pain. Altough it is in normanl state, in my openion he should take care of his diet also, besides thinking of you especially .....before sleeping.
He should not take peppers, cold drinks in regular intervals....should take water/juices instead, chicken/fishes regularly intead take vegetables and salads .
Thankyou.

That happens to all men...It means they're healthy. I read that they get about 10-20 erections a night.

Men get an erection every REM cycle, Which we get about 3 every night of rest. It has to do with blood circulation in our body's. Perfectly normal, you actually have to worry when he DOESN'T get a woody at night.
