Sperm can live in a woman's body for up to six days — possibly seven. And, as long as the semen is still wet, the sperm can survive outside the body. If the semen has dried, been wiped off, or washed off, there are no longer any living sperm.
Pregnancy can happen any time semen spills on or near the vulva. While there are certain times during the month when a woman is more likely to become pregnant, a woman can become pregnant at any time.

The theory that you could not get pregnant during a particular time a month may be effective but it has a very high risk - I think about 40% failure rate, huge! Basically, the theory is that there is a time in your menstruation cycle that you are not very fertile - not to say that you can't get pregnant, but that you are less likely to. This time is between the time of when your egg is old and breaks down to become your period, until after your period when the new egg is formed and you are fertile again. The problem is 1st, knowing exactly when you ovulate. 2nd, your egg may mature at different rates breaking down at different lengths of time (plus minus 2 days usually). 3rd, sperms live up to 7 days so even if you had intercourse on the first day you are NOT fertile, that does not mean that the sperm will not be alive until you ARE fertile again. So, it's tricky and not the best contraception to use. Additionally, your cycle is not completely the same every month, so your ovulation day could change all the time. If you are worry about an unwanted pregnancy, go to Planned Parenthood, they are a non-for-profit organization and they may be able to guide you on what to do. Confidentially. I know you don't want to hear it right now, but remember there is a risk of a slow and painful death by having unprotected sex, if you contract HIV, not to mention a number of other venereal diseases. So, I would say condoms are the best bet for the future.
