Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay
Rage, rage against the dying of the light
There are two sides of a given death; the dying and those left behind. For both, there are two aspects of the thing that deserve consideration. On the one hand, the person is gone, and that's where mourning comes from. The second part involves what we believe about being human: this is where your question about what it means to die finds something like an answer. There are many things to believe about what happens after death, and therefore what death is or means. This involves decision making on our part, about what to believe, what to teach our children.
Often, the beliefs we hold about death attempt to override the importance of mourning. The people left behind try to console themselves with a set of beliefs about death. When this tries to override or deny mourning, I believe it is inappropriate (the whole poem quoted above expresses this perfectly). I don't believe that beliefs change the basic fact of death. Mourning, like all sacred things, involves some discipline: it has its time, and we do a disservice to the dead if we let it take over our lives permanently.
But, now, I hope I've illustrated an overriding point I wanted to make by lapsing into talk about my own beliefs. It's hard to talk about death at all without them (beliefs). We decide what to believe, test it with our experiences, and live accordingly, inasmuch as that is possible. I could tell you all about my beliefs, but if they aren't convincing or appealing to you, I'd just be talking past you in a language you may or may not understand. Decide what you believe, and help others prepare.

Because humans are horrified by death! Every day, our friends, our family, the people we meet, show us that death means the end. No one, no matter how depressed, how annoyed how much in pain they are, wants to really end.... That is why when we are in an accident or our body experiences trauma, parts of us stay alive after the rest of the body shuts down. The body will retaliate when it believes it is being harmed.
You need to change your way of thinking to learn what death really means. You need to understand that what is inside of this physical carriage we call a body is a soul--which is the essesence of what we are--our personality. That soul is made up of kinetic energy, which never breaks down or goes away. When we die or cease to exists, we go on to something else.

People as a whole only want to understand things they can see! If they do not see it or physical can not understand it they are scared of it, not by admitting it just by not discussing it. If you have been raised in the belief of "Our Lord Jesus Christ" then you seek the answers the bible has to offer for the information you are seeking.
My belief is that of the "Christ our Lord" if we believe in "God" we will have everlasting life. "Our Lord" is not evil or wicked he has sent all of us here to learn lessons good and bad, when we learn our mission on earth as we know it our mission is complete or we die,in the human form. As for the other side of life we call it death as humans. "Our Lord" calls it a chosen path. Many have different thoughts and theories whats the truth, is only your heart and mind can do this for you.
I learned this wisdom from death;
1. The loss of my husband from murder at a young age.
2. The loss of life from someone Else choosing to commit suicide, by being run over under the wheels of a vehicle I was personally driving.
3. The sudden lose of my father.
I do not know that another answer for you hope you find what you are looking for!
The ultimate answer is inside you, and how you choose to live life!
Good Luck!

Because no one really knows... until your dead and then you can't teach anyone anything.
Kids learn about death with pets and family members... other than that it's just something unknown.

God teaches us about death and what death and the here after are for us. Therefore death has no sting.

Death is too depressing. Plus, you can only live in the NOW. You cannot live in the past or the future. You can only worry about what is happening to you NOW. NOW is your reality.

Death is such a bad thing to talk about, and yet almost everybody accepts it will happen, you just never like it when it does, so people avoid that subject.

We learn through our life experiences and the life experiences of others, but I don't know anyone who has been dead.
