The prevailing philosophies of the parties:
Republican: free market capitalism and Christian moral values.
Democrat: quasi socialism and secular humanist values.
Libertarian: Government should do little to nothing at all.
All three have their problems (with various extremes in each). For me, although I do not like unrestrained free market capitalism at all costs, I prefer the Republicans.

Republicans and Democrats are both pretty much one extreme or another. I believe that they should seriously start coming up with a more moderate and realistic party that can express the true views of most Americans.
