Like should it be with an 'al' as in ALMOND or as in ALBERT? What do you think is best? Please don't say "I dont like it either way," because I'm not asking you if you like it. I am asking wich prounciation is best. Thanks.

Well.
Alma as in Almond is a snob. She looks down her nose at others and wishes that her parents were richer than they are. She is unkind and selfish. When she gets her come-up-ence, others have a good laugh.
Alma as in Albert. Different story. She is a good friend and is slightly on the tubby side. Smiley and funny. Not a ringleader like Alma as in Almond. A follower.
You are right that pronounciation is important. It changes everything.

al as in almond. thats the regular way well that i've heard it. But when i say Alma like albert it livens it up a bit and makes it sound more modern.

It is pronounced "Ahl ma" as in open wide and say 'ah'. My grandmother had a couple of friends with this name and I love it. Old ladies were once little girls too! Also, looking at the chart at the link below, it is actually increasing in popularity.
BTW, I agree with the other poster. In some parts of the country, it is pronounced "Al ma" as in Albert.

Well I am LDS and in the Book of Mormon is a very well known prophet named Alma, so we all know the name very very well. I have pronounced it like Al, like weird Al :) But I think the other way would sound more unique.

Depends where you live... Southern folks are more likely to read it as "al"(bert), I would think. that is a tough one because you have to think about it, if she is going to have to always be correcting people on the correct pronunciation. I like Alma with the almond sound better. Sounds a little more sophisticatied.

Alma is pronounced "Ahl-ma," like Almond, not "Aaal-ma," like Albert. It is the correct Spanish pronunciation, and since Alma is Spanish for "soul," I think it's a lovely name, both in concept and in sound.

I like 'al' as in almond the best, but people will probably get confused and say it both ways. It's a good name.

I think all-ma (like almond sound) sounds better personally. Al-ma (like albert) is a little too old fashioned, but I think all-ma is pretty, especially as a middle name.

Almond sounds a bit prettier to me. I like it better than ALbert. It sounds like you're screaming the name and can get annoying when you're upset with the kid. AL! AL! Almond just sounds better to the ear, in this particular case.
