I need help. I have two 55-gallon aquariums. One has plants in it but they are all low light plants and they are doing well. The other 55 is not even running yet but I would like to make another planted aquarium out of it. The problem is that it only has two 15-Watt bulbs for the lighting and I am wanting to go with some of the medium to high light plants in this aquarium. What should I DO, BUY, or MAKE??? Could I also have the estimated costs as well.

Thanks

30 watts is certainly not enough to grow nice plants>depending on the plants you want to grow and the location of the plants (floating or planted in substraight ) you will have to determine the lighting you need The deeper the tank the more wattage is needed to penetrate thru the water. If you are interested in 2 -4 bulb lites they are available in various wattage at thatfishplace.com

It will end up costing about the same either way, so I would just go buy it unless you really want to make it for fun. For high light plants, you will need about 200 watts! So, I would stick with medium light plants. Finding two 50 watt bulbs shouldn't be too hard, and from there, all you have to do is buy the hood for a 55 gallon tank with the capability to hold two lights. Email me if you have any questions.
