I do not believe that any country has the right to occupy another unless the occupying country poses a direct threat. The occupation of an unwilling country never seems to work unless the invading force is willing to go to extreme measures.

If you use that line, we were unjustified in sending troops to France in World War I after the sinking of the Lusitania, we were clearly and obviously unjustified in sending troops to Great Britain, France, Belgium, Italy, Africa, and Germany in World War II, not to mention Australia, Borneo, The Phillippines, China, and Japan. You would have said, "But Hawaii is not part of the U.S. We should never have built Pearl Harbor in the first place."

We are clearly unjustified in occupying nations such as Guam, American Samoa, Puerto Rico, and Cuba. Our invasion of Korea was clearly unjustified.

As to waiting for UN peace keeping forces, got news for you, Baby Bob: United States soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines are the UN peace keeping forces. Without Uncle Sam's forces, there would not even be a United Nations.

Sure, Legally anyway. There is really very little in the way of international law, and even less enforcement. So basically Yes. One nation has the right to invade another, because there are no laws specifically against it. Morally... its infinitly more complex. Technically no, but if horrible things are happening to certain people in that country don't you have the moral responsible to defend them? for example those countries in Africa or Eastern Europe that have a new genocide every two weeks? In the end there are no easy answers, just saying No its never ok to invade country doesn't work, but just invading any country for the heck of it, is also not a good thing.

What is "legal"? Legal applies to law, and countries form their laws. The jurisdiction of one country's law cannot interfere with another country's sovereignty. There is NO way to legally or illegally occupy another country, it just happens. Even if it could be illegal, what law enforcement body has the jurisdiction to apprehend and prosecute the occupier?

ARTICLE 51 of the UN Charter declares that aggression other than in self defense is illegal
The Geneva conventions consider unprovoked attacks on sovereign countries the highest crime in international law. An equivalent to murder.
Annexation of land by war is also illegal.
It is not about power struggles. It is about humanity evolving.
In the past there were no laws regarding rape. Now there are.
Law differentiates us from animals.
International aggression is a crime and those who perpetrate it are criminals.
That is why the nazis were condemned as war criminals.
That is why every leader who has commanded his army into an assault on another country is a criminal.

SEND THE CRIMINALS TO THE HAGUE!

Where does the UN get the right to occupy any country?

Only if they've got enough weapons to pull it off.

And just a question for you, why does it make it OK if the UN occupies a country?

I think Iraq has earned the right to occupy America by now, it would be good for both to learn from example.

Yes.

International law is a farce. The only real international law is war.
