OK

You have 1.5 (micrometer)(micrometer)

micrometer =10^-6meter

Plugging it directly in for micrometer

1.5 (10^-6meter)(10^-6meter)

= 1.5(10^-12)(meter)(meter)

We know 1m = 1,000mm = 1,000,000um, or 10^6um.

Then, it follows that (1m)^2 = (10^6 um)^2 = 10^12 um^2. A simple algebraic manipulation shows that
1um^2 = 10^(-12) m^2.

It's a simple matter of multiplying by 1.5 to find
1.5um^2 = 1.5*(1um^2) = 1.5*10^(-12) m^2.
