I MIGHT NEED TO REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP ON IT, HOW MUCH SHOULD I EXPECT TO PAY TO LOWER THE TANK, CHANGE THE PUMP & RUN A NEW WIRE FOR THE PUMP?

expect to pay about 175-200 bucks for the pump, plus 2 hours labor. You can do it yourself, unplug the wiring harness to the rear lights, 1 ground strap, six bolts and lift the bed right off (offer your buddies some beer to help). The lock ring turns off, may need to persuade a bit with a hammer and punch, and replace the o-ring (should come with the pump). Grease the new o-ring with vaseline to aid assembly.

My 1990 C1500 needs its pump replaced. A local shop here in the Phoenix area quoted $760 for a Delphi pump and $540 for a Wix pump. The local dealer quoted $825. The pump (without sender) is only $52 at AutoZone and $215 as a complete unit (with sender also from AutoZone). Having done this once before, I believe that the bed removal method is much easier than trying to drop the tank if you do not have a lift. You also stand a much lower chance of damaging the fuel lines and frame clips by moving back the truck bed. I wouldn't recommend Vaseline as a lubricant for the seal ring as it sometimes causes the rubber compounds to swell. I always use "plumber's grease". It's soap based and pretty inert. I just pulled my bed this morning. It took about an hour and I now have a clear shot at the tank without moving it.

Why do you need to replace the wires to the fuel pump and sender? I've never done this unless the car or truck caught on fire. Anyways, I'm just talking about a straight mechanical replace here. To replace the bare minimum for a fuel pump job, you need to replace the fuel pump, in-tank strainer, and the fuel filter which would be roughly 300-400 bucks just for parts. Usually the nuts that are on the ends on the fuel sender assembly pipes seize onto the pipes and wreck the sender when taking it apart so that entails having to replace that as well which is about another 700-800 bucks. If you can get these apart without damaging them, then you don't have to replace the sender. I would say I was about 75% replacing senders when I did these all the time, so you figure it out. Add another 2-3 hours labour depending upon rust, dirt, or mud. Good luck.

300 or more. Double that at the GM dealer shop. You can do this yourself.
