I really want to buy this book but I don't know which version to get. There is the Illustrated Edition hardcover (2005) and the Hardcover version (1990). What gets me is that the 1990 version ($31.87) is a little more expensive than the Illustrated Edition ($29.00). I would think that the Illustrated would be more. It's not a kiddy version or anything with kiddy pictures. Why might the 1990 hardcover be slightly more ???

I honestly have no idea, but I can tell you that it is NOT a first edition. A 1st edition copy of Salem's Lot would run into the hundreds. It could be that the 1990 version is now out of print and thus the price would be greater.

does it have to be a hardcover?

there are Salem's Lot books (mass paperback) available for 8$, on Barnes and Noble-- and Amazon has used ones from 99 cents.

BUT if you're set on having something "special" why dicker over a couple of dollars.

Amazon, although a good store to purchase from, usually offers only 1 or 2 choices to purchase. Buy from them or buy from Amazon Marketplace sellers who normally charge near what Amazon charges. There's another book seller called Abebooks where there are 100's of sellers you can buy from and their prices for the books. Try the link below. Good hunting.
