The difference is, Hun, Republicans are only COMPARING Iraq to Vietnam, the Liberals are reliving it.
Need I add more? You've seen it, and so have I.

They don't believe Iraq is Vietnam, they just see how there are some striking similarities between them. First, they were both launched on premises that proved to be false, The Gulf of Tonken Incident in Vietnam, which is believed to have not happened, and the WMD's in Iraq, which were never found. Second, when going into the country, both presidents made the mistake of thinking that since the populous didn't like the previous rulers that they would embrace the US. That is the most striking similarity.

Conservatives should not be surprised anymore when this happens. The left NEVER wants to talk facts or make comparisons that don't make them the HERO or the STAR of the discussion.
Vietnam - Hippy drugged-out Americans were against the war and protested our involvement. They had high profile "dissenters" such as Hanoi Jane Fonda.
We QUIT and our servicemen were spit on when they came home.
IRAQ - Progressive drugged out freaks are against this war and protest our involvement. Baghdad Rosie and Sean Penn are a couple of current celebrity "dissenters" who make headlines regularly in their efforts to GROUP HUG the enemy. Our Servicemen and woman are treated better this time because we Conservatives are making SURE they are.
Progressives STILL want us to QUIT like Viet Nam but we have a strong and steady Republican President who will not cave to pressure and will do all he can to have us WIN this war!!

They are more than willing to allow conservatives to compare Nam & Iraq to each other as long as they are only comparing the times we were actively engaged. Then one hears statements like quagmire.
Once one starts acknowledging the aftermath of leaving the area they don't want any responsibility for the deaths of innocents.
It is all about the conclution one is going to reach. We lost the PR war in Nam & the Press & the Left are doing their best to see to it we lose again.

The left has control of the dialogue, moderate America has been silent and let them change the meaning of the words, their rule is do as I say, or the means justify the end. In reality they are just dishonest in debate and many other areas.
If the left succeeds in forcing an early withdrawal from Iraq as they did in Vietnam, the results will be the same, slaughter of epic proportion. As for any other comparisons, none are valid.
What I find despicable are the answers you received from those who have no connection to either, and would not understand a moral cause if it was on the end of their leftist noses.
The democratic politicians pulled the plug on Vietnam and they kept our hands tied behind our back with their interference. While they do not have the nerve to pull the plug this time, they are tying these young warriors hands again and the media as before are doing everything possible to undermine our people. To me that is disgusting, these people are disgusting.

This is not a liberal/conservative issue. It's more of a, "Were you there while it was going on?" issue.
I feel I personally don't have a good enough opinion of Vietnam to comment on it or to compare it to Iraq because I hadn't been born yet when Vietnam was going on. And I don't think that just reading up on exactly what happened would help me any further in forming a valid opinion.
I think you had to be there, with the news updates of the time, to fully grasp it.
As Bush dodged the draft and didn't serve, I'm not sure he has a valid opinion either. I think what he is doing is reverse lip service.

I do not believe these people have the moral footing to make any comparison. They did not support us in Vietnam and now in Iraq.
As one of your other answers so clearly states, the only comparison is the lack of support by the left and their useful idiots in the media.
We are on the precipice and this is the line drawn in the sand, it is a war of global proportions, us and Western Civilization versus the islamic war machine, one that intends to chop off your infidel head or blow you to pieces. This is no silly bumper sticker war, and only a idiot would even say something that stupid.

it is ok, viet nam was a mess for everyone and anyone that wants to lay claim to it is very welcome.
conserative or Liberal. WAR is wrong every time, no matter what.
but
If you are in a war you have to do everything you can to win the war and that is where our leaders have failed. When 500,000 troops were needed they sent 100,000. When the directive cmae to make a stand, they didn't

THE POINT MOST PEOPLE ARE MISSING IN THIS COMPARISON IS WHAT WOULD HAPPEN AFTER AMERICAN TROOPS LEFT IRAQ NOT ABOUT WHAT'S GOING ON RIGHT NOW. THE THING THAT HAS THE LEFT UPSET IS THE MENTION OF THE KILLING FIELDS THAT OCCURRED UNDER THE KHMER ROUGE IN CAMBODIA AFTER THE U.S. LEFT.

Liberals aren't saying this. The point is that for years, Conservatives failed to make this point. They even said the two were nothing alike. Suddenly, yesterday, George W. Bush makes the connection and all Conservatives just follow suite. It is called flip flopping.
