If you mkae a website (like a domain one) meaning www.something.com instead of using a place like freewebs, how much does it generally cost?

Usually it's about $3 - $5. I think http://www.domainlagoon.com/ gives away free domains if you participate in their surveys.

You just need to buy a domain, for several months or a year.
It should be generally, bellow 100$ in some web domain resellers, if it's an .org or .info domain which are general.
They also provide more space, and custom email addresses.

Yahoo.com , Hostmonster.com , godaddy.com and register.com all offer package deals... both the domain and hosting the website for a flat fee. Shop them.
Make sure the domain is YOURS and in your name if you go through them.
