Is this possible for hurricanes?

Question

Is it possible for an atlantic hurricane to cross over into the pacific ocean and become a pacific storm? If so, does it retain its name seeing how pacific storms have a different naming system?

Answered this yesterday. Yes it is. They keep the name if they come in as a trop storm. They are a hurricane unless they cross the international dateline, at which time they are given a new name as a typhoon........

Some storms have blown across Panama. I believe that they are renamed.

After crossing Central America into the Pacific, it was renamed Tropical Storm Miriam and eventually dissipated out to sea. Joan-Miriam was the final hurricane of the 1988 Atlantic hurricane season and the final named storm of that same year's Pacific hurricane season....

yes they can cross over and they keep the same name they had when they were on the atlantic side if they keep up hurricane strength over the land but if they loose their stength and emerge as a trpical storm then they will be renamed with a pacific name as they build back up to a hurricane again
