This was on my chemistry review and i don't know what it means about the polyatomic ions, so if anyone has any clue to what the answer is could you help me out? and please try to explain how you figured that since i should probably know.

In addition to answer above...polyatomic ions are compounds that act like elements when bonding with other elements. We look at polyatomic ions as a whole and not individual elements that compose of the compound.

a) It shows ionic bonding between Mg2+ and CO3=, but covalent bonding of C and O in CO3=.

b) The polyatomic ion is carbonate, CO3=.

c) MgCO3 is the formula of magnesium carbonate.
