It looks good on TV, the lens makes people look fatter than they really are. In real life bone skinny looks sick.

It's funny how many answers you are getting INSULTING skinny girls. These people are either insulting someone who is naturally thin or insulting someone who has a serious mental and physical disease. Real mature. Not to insult the younger people, but with all the name calling it really does sound like a bunch of 14 year olds answering. This isn't really directed to you, more to the immature people who are answering.
People can look good and be healthy at many weights, not just the average. You can't have the average without people below and above the average. It is sad that so many girls think they are too fat, especially ones that weigh 120 lbs, that is just ridiculous. Sadly, there will always be one type that is perceived as the ideal, and everyone who does not fit that is gonna be made to feel bad about it. As soon as skinny goes out, something else will be in, and everyone who doesn't fit that ideal will be ridiculed and think there is something wrong with them. I'm glad you recognize this and don't give into what everyone else is saying. A body type isn't what makes a person attractive, if anyone buys into that, they are foolish.

The media has made it seem that skinny is the only way to be. Everywhere you look you see skinny people that are way under weight in advertisements. It's nice once in a while to see an average person in an ad. I'm one of those girls who don't try to be skinny but still am. I am so tired of people always asking me how I stay so skinny and what I do. I do nothing people! You don't want to be like this. You can't find pants that fit and clothes seem like they'r always falling off of you! I'm 24 years old, 5'4" and 95 lbs. It sucks to constantly hear EVERY DAY that "You're so skinny!" like I don't know. I eat 3 meals a day and snack but I have a fast metabolism. And for the girls that want to be like this or smaller...you're crazy! Just work out and stay healthy, that's all that matters, not how much you weigh.

because girls tend to think there not good enough. the average girl gets complimented once in a month. take those statistics to you and you would feel bad about your weight too. girls didnt usually hear "oh that looks good on you"
if your a guy and call tell me the last time you said that to your gf please do so. but if not you keep that in mind. in today's society, people judge you on the way you look. if your not skinny, your not fun to be with. thats society's rule. and you know what? Americans have grown used to this. pretty sad. maybe some people dont wanna be judged so they blend in. or in skinny cases disappear. well just an opinion.

well i think about this alot but honestly i think it has something to do with american standards. i was born in europe and all the girls over there are generally skinny already, not dead looking skinny to me but they look skinnier than most girls here because people eat differently there and walk more, exercise etc. i've grown up with those girls and thats really the only type that i find attractive, brunettes that are skinny or athletic. i mean i don't understand why lots of american girls just don't start exercise and watching what they eat instead of bitching about being fat. 116 lbs is fine but like the ones that are 140 lbs and 5 feet tall that is fat im sorry but tough ****. and btw i think brunettes > blondes hah. and you said that models look have dead, i agree with you and thats probably why (lots of) american girls have such low standards and low self confidence but whatever you can't fix it. some people are just born to be like that i guess.

I think it's because they have an extremley low self confidence and are highly insecure. They don't even want models to be bone thin anymore due to these girls following what they do and become anorexic. I wouldn't want to hurt them, but I would advise them to talk to a psychologist because maybe it could be something deep inside of them that they just can't come to grips with, which is causing them to want to be bone thin. Even if men have a preference to thin people, it shouldn't be just based on that. If you ask me, men should care about more of the person who is on the inside then the person that they see on the outside.

i don't really get it, myself. i AM one of those stick skinny girls (5'5", 105 lbs) and i've been trying to put on weight since junior high. the only real benefit i've noticed is i can find clothes in my size on sale cause i'm not a common size being so small. but..i got no curves and i'm freezing all the time. i don't think i get more guys than the average sized girl would get, and, in fact, most of my guy friends tell me to put on a few cause they like women with curves and some "extra padding" *shrug*
..and can i just add...not every girl that is super skinny is unhealthy and "disgusting" as many of you have mentioned. some are, yes. but in my case, it's an issue of metabolism. i eat about 6 meals a day cause my body just works it off faster than most. it's not fair to assume that every skinny girl is sick any more than it is fair to assume all fatter girls don't exercise and eat healthy. everyone's body just acts differently..have a little sensitivity

First off they probably know they are skinny and just want people to say "your stupid you as soooo skinny" so don't let them. Part of it is Hollywood. Believe me stick skinny is going out fast, guys like girls with curves. With the chest and the butt. Tell them if you are stick skinny, you won't get a chest lol it worked on my friend.

No need to apologize re: spelling, there's a spell check feature here you could've used. ☺
As for skinny, part of it is the media and the foolish stick-girl celebrities that these girls idolize. Apparently there's not enough positive influence at home for them to have a better self image without desiring to be unhealthily thin...hopefully they'll grow out of it before they do too much damage to themselves.

because this society beleives what is see/reads/hears...
all women should be rake thin and tall and beautiful too. it's depressing but if you want to be popular you have to be those three things first. i work at a university and it's rampant there too, even though you'd think that these are adults that have learned to scoff at evil adverts...
sadly this is not the case. my sister has battled with eating disorders most of her life and she was one of the popular kids in school and she reads those stupid magazines that have stick skinny women in it...doesnt matter that they are all going to die early deaths because of heart conditions from lack of proper nutrition or from cocaine over use....it's what women are sold from a very early age...
sad but true.
