Why do women voluntarily subject themselves to an environment where they are treated as less then the men ? For example, women who become video models (actually, women that become models period).

Of course I don't expect the males to understand how wearing a skimpy outfit in front of a million (exageration) flashing cameras could possibly be demeaning. Not to mention being constantly told you have to lose weight although you're already a size 1.

A lot of people on here are not getting what you are saying for some reason. The wonderful world of YA I suppose lol. Video girls are often groped, grabbed, and used dry from the men in the videos. But as far as the women go, they figure thats a way to step up, become an actress or somebody like that. Its like a pipe dream for a woman. Nothing substantial, just something to do to get them to point B. Some just want attention even negative, and maybe want to hook up with a "dream" man. Its sad, but so many little girls want to be like this. Idolized for their bodies instead of their minds....

As for top models, they get no sympathy because they get paid very very well.

Models are not treated less than men. In the modeling industry, actually, men are paid much less than women and women are sought after moreso. Not sure where you're getting your info.

Also, modeling is not degrading. They promote products. And, only a small percentage of society has the goods. Don't hate. ANTM should have taught you that modeling is more than a pretty face. It's a craft that has to be mastered. Again, not everyone has what it takes.

And, don't be mad at the models because society places so much importance on beauty. Not their fault. They're just capitalizing on it. Nothing wrong with that.

As for video models, Eva Mendes got her start on Will Smith's Miami video and now she's a A-list celebrity. Go figure, huh?

I know... 2 million dollars to stand in front of a guy with a camera somewhere on a beach. How awful! Those poor women! PSSH!

The women who are modeling are doing it because they WANT to. They are not forced. The only way I would feel sorry for them is if they were being forced into it.

And how exactly does this make them "less than men"? I've seen many male "video models". The men don't make nearly as much money as the women... doesn't that make THEM the ones that are being treated as less?

Find a better crusade, like female circumcision, or girls sold into prostitution. Then I will commiserate with you.

Why do you think that models are treated as "less than men"? I don't really feel this is the case and my sister models and I'm sure she would also disagree. I kind of understand your question, but just question your example as a valid example. I think that towards the question, some women may put themselves in situations where they may be treated poorly in an effort to find some sort of validation of themselves.

You are generalizing. 1.) In fashion female models make way more than there male counterparts. 2.) Video Ho's are not models they shake their azz for 5 seconds of fame and a shot to be a rapper's baby's mama. Women become fashion model for various reasons but I would assume vanity is the greatest one.

As far as I know, models both male and female are treated the same, if anything the females get preferential treatment.

Or are you trying to imply that women who accept their sexuality or use it are subservient or less than they should be? Isn't it possible to be sexy or flaunt your looks without being less a human being?

Organism by nature do many different things to attract the oppisite sex, why should humans be different.

Because they have either been brainwashed or bought into the media hype that teaches them they are valued primarily for their looks and to be grateful they receive some benefit from this asset, no matter how short lived it may be.

I thought models were treated with respect and desire? How many male models are treated with respect?

I've often thought that...it's the women that are insecure and REALLY need to feel admired and appreciated for their 'raving and ravishing beauty' ...having people fawning over them and being famous for it is what they crave...giving the rest of us a bad rap about being weak and unable to do ANYTHING ourselves!!!

If people were stupid enough to pay me a lot of money to look pretty, I'd take advantage of them, too.
