starving has only ever occurred since you have emerged by the way. the humans are and have always been what is known as civilised. no one starves whilst other eat, this is the cave way. no thanks.

Well ancestors in caves ate a lot more fruits, vegetables and nuts than meat... Plants could just be collected, while meat required a successful hunt. It might be days between kills, so meat was highly prized.

Keep in mind the Atkins diet works for rapid weight loss only if you follow it precisely (the body doesn't go into ketosis if there is anything else to burn), and it's not healthy long-term.

I'm not sure, but I don't think cavemen were very concerned with style. In early civilized Europe being "plump" was considered attractive. These days the style aspect of being slim is a result of clothes generally looking better on slim people. Health conscious people know that obesity can lead to heart disease, diabetes and other problems. I once knew a girl who got so fat that a bone in her leg couldn't handle the weight and broke!

I think the reason being thin is so hot is because it's what's harder to achieve in well off countries. In countries where people are starving, it's hot to be fat.
