They realized the importance of how strong their bond was. At the beginning they were all fighting and at the end they were very close.
Also, the whole story is very "bible/Christian" oriented so there's a lot to do with God (Aslan) and the temptations that the devil (the White Witch) provides and how you are going to work through them and resist. And if you do resist, God will always forgive you. Plus it has the sacrifice Jesus made for his people.

This book has biblical parallels. The whole story is bible based with Aslan being the parallel to Jesus Christ. The problem was solved by Aslan taking Edmund's place and becoming the sacrifice so that Edmund could live. This is the parallel to Christ's crucifixion. Christ died in our place so that we would have a chance at salvation and our souls would know eternal life. Aslan took the blame, paid Edmund's price and then helped set Narnia free.

sgtsalswqife is correct, and you should award her full points. An early theory of the sacrifice of Jesus is that after the fall of Adam and Eve, God let Satan have dominion over all humans, who were tainted with sin. But God tricked Satan by sending Jesus, who was free of sin. When the forces of Satan seized Jesus and put him to death, Satan had overstepped. So God was free to intervene and save humankind. This theory has been discredited in recent centuries, because a "cheap trick" seems unworthy of God and Jesus.

In the Narnia story, the witch overstepped by putting Aslan to death. Thus she violated a part of the Elder Magic that had founded Narnia.

I would like to know exactly what problem you are referring to. The problem of the White Witch? The downfall of the White Witch started when all four children arrived in Narnia. That signalled the return of Aslan and the breaking of her power. Although the betrayal of Edmund came close to helping her succeed, her changing of her claim on him for the chance to kill Aslan signalled her defeat. By sacrificing himself for Edmund, Aslan was able to return from the dead and, after returning to life those the witch had turned to stone, led them to Peter and Edmund's rescue. It was Aslan who killed the White Witch after which he crowned Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy in fulfilment of the prophecy.

The stories by CS Lewis are based in Christian thought and beliefs, Lewis himself was a noted lecturer on Christianity. He also adapted several pagan beliefs into his story (in the various types of characters) however not to take away from the Christian aspect but to show that they could work together.
