the dr. suggested to try formula only for a couple of days because she said that breast milk has lactose and that might be the problem. i did try it and it made a big difference with the gas. i don't really want to stop breastfeeding for the simple fact that it took us about three weeks to latch on so i'm really happy that we succeded does anyone have any advice? I know that breastfeeding is better than formula so what should I do, I don't want him suffer either

I had to give up on breastfeeding because my son just couldn't tolerate it (and I was on medication). He has been of Prosobee from the very beginning, and I'm just now gradually switching him to milk-based formula. He's 12 months.

Yeah, breastmilk is best, but the formula is pretty good, too. My son was a preemie, and now he's 22 pounds! I wouldn't sweat it too much.

Check your diet and see if it wasn't from something you were eating and try him on breastmilk again. If it doesn't work out, there's no reason to beat yourself up. He's going to get all the bonding and all the nutrition he needs either way.

Pay very special attention to your diet-- it could be something in it that is making him gassy.

You can always pump to keep your production up and do partial breast feeding and partial formula while you sort it out. I applaud your efforts to breast feed. It may be possible that he's really lactose intolerant and simply can't process breast milk.... but try adjusting your diet first.

its a hard choice to make but he is better off having something with out lactose in it if he is lactose intolerant .

i will let you know something being that my son is 6 months it is very hard to find the jar foods with out milk in it. so when it comes to 2nd and 3rd stage foods for you son that will be hard to.
