SCREW that.. it should be the ones who took on the mortgage payment that should be held liable. QIUT SPOON FEEDING AMERICANS!!

It is not what the states says they will DO FOR YOU, it is what the state will DO TO YOU that is important. We need to eliminate a whole bunch of laws that do things to us. The Current mortgage crisis is a good example. Those mortgages were made legal by the laws that allowed them and the high costs associated with them. we are due for a correction but people trusted and relied on government too much and now everyone is trying to buy vortes with your money again.
RE henry the VIII's answer, that is the kind of assistance that is better taken on by the local community. When we rely on the government they wast too many resources providing and controlling that assistance. If it were not for the burden of inefficient government, they might not have needed the assistance and he might still have his job.

This government is doing nothing domestic except spending as much money on personal agendas as possible. The country is attacked by some men with cutters and airplane who drive it into strategic sites. Since then we have gone into unexplainable debt, global warming ,and we should trust this leadership. Wait we will go backwards and put Clinton back in for nostalgia. Persons need to get up off their butts and start to complain to their representatives about the last six or seven years of flag waving politics which just shuts up the people thinking someone may be concerned. Meanwhile Iraq is in ruins and the government is stating we can't win this war!! What is that about? It is becoming more and more disillusioned with the leadership and the issues and the crap while everyone is losing their homes and flooding and hurricanes are eminent everywhere. Yet we should not be upset. When is someone going to become involved in the issues that are rising in America. Lets yell Terrorism because the FBI can't do their jobs dealing with criminals. The police force has to do everything and is not trained. Meanwhile the senators just keep the same ole problems from being solved because they are making soooo much money doing nothing. So where is the leadership? Katrina is just another example of how lame our government is in a crisis situation. The state is still not up to par. Criminals in the government vs criminals outside the government seems to be the status of how things are running in this country.Oh course their is always FOX news to remind us on the crap and how it is being dealt with. So if you believe your tax dollars are representing you , you need to get involved in the new era. A new era is unfolding. Unfortunately the economy can not get any higher so what goes up must come down as much as we don't want to believe...This is an American problem not associated with terrorists who are just criminals who are clever than our FBI in International matters of ID theft
and stealing whatever they can conjour from stupid Americans. So what are you going to do change your focus no one is going to save us, we need to readdress everything into a new prospective and let go of the flag waving idiots.

One example...
You should really love the mindset of a guy like Paul Ehrlich.
Certain issue advocates believe that the population is simply too stupid to deserve an opinion.
Of course Ehrlich became the laughing stock of the rational world after his doomsday predictions for the 70s and 80s didn't pan out. You'd better believe, though, that he has apologists today who simply shifted the timeline to the right and are 100% on board with his smug attitude about 'common folks'.
Incidentally, he advocated for such things as cutting off food aid to foreign nations that continued to reproduce and mused about the notion of introducing sterilization drugs into food/water supplies (In the United States).
------------------------------------------------------
"The Population Bomb" - 1969...regarding ways to prevent environmental catastrophe due to an impending population explosion.
In a chapter entitled "What You Can Do", under the heading "Proselytizing Friends and Associates" and the subheading "Target is a Schoolteacher":
"It will be easy for you to convince most schoolteachers that the population problem is very real. They have been struggling with overcrowded classrooms and ghetto children for a long time."
"They are under the thumb of school boards that are all too often opposed to the teaching of anything socially important in school."
"Those subjects should be 'taught at home'. The parents of the children are, of course, usually hopelessly incompetent to teach any of these subjects"

So my neighbor who was recently laid off from a job where there are very few of such jobs available, the nature of things, is supposed to lose his hous and starve to death is that it? His wife had a lung transplant and she is supposed to be out in the cold because YOU think it is a nanny state?
If you don't want government assistance should you be in a situation like that than don't apply. No one really cares. As for our friends and neighbors we do care and we will do what we can to help them. Unfortunately they are going to need more help than we can give. Maybe you would like to contribute a couple thousand a month to keep them from losing their home and so they can put food on the table. How else would they do that?
Some day you may be in a situation where you will need a little boost from the government make sure you say no thank you I can do it on my own I don't need a nanny.

Government should really just be a small entity with a sole purpose of defending the freedoms of its citizens, not a police state complete with scare tactics and wiretaps
