This idea has become an "urban legend." There will not be 2 moons in the sky on August 27. The "second moon" is supposed to be Mars. This goes back to a celestial event that occurred about 4 years ago. At that time, Mars was closest to the earth in its orbit than it will ever be again for another 2000 years or something like that. At that time in August of 2003, the planet Mars appeared as a very bright star in the night sky. Indeed, I had the opportunity to view it while in vacation in Mystic, CT when a group of sidewalk astronomers were on the street. It was a very bright star--a bright orb seen through the telescope but it was no where near big enough to compete with the size of the moon or be mistaken for a second moon.
