i have seen many comments on the 'Electorial College' that lead me to believe that some may not have an understanding as to why our forefathers devised this plan to allow for equal prepresentation of all citizens.

This link gives a historical background on why and how it was created. It is good knowledge to have if you wish to debate it's merits.

i have used that link too, the reason i chose the one i did was that is easy to read and does not require navigation but thanks for referencing another good link. ;)

I'm not in total agreement with the link. The majority of our Founding Fathers actually feared Democracy, which is why Senators were not popularly elected. It was a balancing act, just like the Senators were voted on by state legislators to ensure popular majority didn't rule, the electoral college was the check to popular majority rule of the Presidency. Our framers thought balance of powers was the absolute key to a properly working republic.
