My best friend and I and my 8 year old decided to go out for breakfast one morning at a Waffle House. We were pretty famished at arrival and we walked inside to find no available tables. We were optimistic because we were the only ones waiting to be seated next.

We waited about 10 minutes or so, not very long, when 4 soldiers in uniform came in. Immediately someone at a table shouts out to them, "Over here! We are almost finished, you can sit at our table". So they stood up and as the soldiers began to walk to the table offered. One looked at us and said, "Well they were here first" and he was not heard and they sat down and were served.

I thought that we deserved to eat just as much as anyone else, and I was disturbed that these grown men were seated before two women and a child even though we had already been waiting. It didn't look as though another table would clear anytime soon so we left and went across the street.

What would you think if this happened to you?

Peter D, thanks for you opinion, but I am in the least bit sexest if that is what you are trying to imply. I think it would be very interesting to see how you felt if that happened to your child. I don't know about you but I always put children first.

The same thing but with the war and all, someone out there will always want to make themselves feel important by helping a soldier out. It was rude and I am surprized that the guys didn't say something to you to let you be seated first.

1.) You are absolutely correct. You were entitled to the table.

2.) You are entitled to the table regardless of your genders and ages. You deserve the table because you were first in line not because you have breasts. It's sexist to assume that you deserve the table because you're women. That implies that if you were men then it wouldn't matter. As far as children go, I don't believe they deserve any special treatment beyond that which any human being deserves. With all due respect, they're your kids. I didn't have them. The burden for their care and comfort falls on you.

3.) Waffle House is disgusting. As a restaurant they lead just about every category in health code violations. Their waffles are frozen. On the entire menu the only things fresh are the eggs. Oh, and they don't have biscuits and gravy.

Don't you just hate this. Why don't we speak up. If our tongue is tied at that moment I have heard the expression "excuse me!". I plan to use these words in the future no matter what the situation is. It fits everything. The one that spoke up has feelings on this. He saw you leave and I feel sure his buddies heard from him. The couple that gave them their table should have been spoken to for them putting you in that ackward position since we are dealing with soldiers. They should have left the situation alone. Bet they weren't thinking before they acted. I like it that you left instead if making a scene.

I am Bren's best friend, and I was there that morning with her. I thought it was rude. Period. If the soldiers would have offered us the table, we probably would have told them to go ahead and sit there, just because thats how we are. I just thought it was rude. Not to mention that the people at the table never once offered us their table. Whatever... it was rude.

I would feel put out. I respect people in the armed forces, but it's poor customer service for the establishment and poor etiquette for the clients to bypass you without asking your permission.

It's unfair! Simple and plain. You have as much right to eat as anyone else. Those troops should have had more military bearing. I sure hope that doesn't happen again!

I would think it was unfair, and if that guy who spoke up was truely a gentleman, he would've spoken louder as well as declined, and offered the table to you ladies...
