"As I'm sure as you assummed, we are a young childless couple. So you can imagine we have been having a huge amount of great sex. Well guess what? All of that is about to change. Happy Thanksgiving Mom. Do you need me to pass the turkey?"

When I found out I was pregnant, I was SOOO excited to tell my parents and my in-laws. They will ALL be first time grandparents... So, I went to the dollar store, got two really cute baby picture frames and printed out this poem and put it in the frame, wrapped it up and gave it to them. They LOVED it!

To My Grandparents:

I do not have a face to see,
to put inside this frame.
I do not have soft cheeks to kiss;
I don't yet have a name.

You can't hold my tiny hands,
nor whisper in my ear.
It's still too soon to sing a song,
or cuddle me so near.

But all will change coming soon,
when they say I'm due.
I'm your new grandson or granddaughter;
I can't wait till I meet you.

All I ask between now and then
is your patience while I grow.
I promise I'll be worth the wait,
because of all the love we'll know.

So as you're waiting patiently,
please pray lots of prayers for me.
I cannot wait to be a part
of this wonderful family!

I sent my husband a very large bouquet of blue and pink flowers w/ 11 (his fav number) balloons attached...and I wrote something like..."Congratulations DADDY! Boy or Girl? I suppose this would work for family members too.
You could have everyone over for dinner and serve those plates that have "lids" on them...tell everyone not to open the lid until everyone is seated and in the room. Have them open the lid and there could be...baby hat, baby booties, baby rattle, etc.
Good luck.

I don't really have any suggestions. Just examples of what we did.
Parents are divorced-so we told them separately. When I was younger my daddy would give me my baths. He would make his hand into a puppet with my mother's make up. We met him for brunch and told him that he would need to by make up-he knew right away what I was saying. His girlfriend was lost.
We told my mother that we thought about getting another cat (she is an animal rights person) she said no-two was enough-then we said were thought about a dog-she responded no-no more four legged creatures-what about a bird. My husband said-fate stepped in and we are having a baby. My mother didn't believe us-she told me to call my grandmother-she didn't believe me she told me to let her speak to my mother.
We told my sister-in-law to tell her son that he is going to have a cousin.
We told his brother that we were going to tell my mother we were pregnant-he was like-oh going to go pull her leg-my husband said no-we are telling her we are pregnant. Once it clicked we got congrats.
We are 24, but we were pretty secretive that we were trying-we had been for over a year-just didn't want family pressure-so everyone was shocked because they didn't even know that we were trying.
We sent a lamb with a book to his mother-to read to her grandchild.
I recommend making it unique for them as possible.

I saw this on t.v. and thought it was sweet. A father was having a birthday dinner with his family. His son gives him a b-day card and tells him to read it out loud. In the note, the father ends up reading out loud and announcing at the same time, that he is going to be a grandpa. Or something to that effect.

i waited til' a family party when we played 2 truth's and a lie (pretty self explanitory, you tell two facts about yourself -usually that not many people know- and a lie, and they have to guess which one is the lie.) I used being pregnant as a truth and came up with a believable lie (like "i've gotten 2 parking tickets" when i've really only gotten one)
a scavenger hunt would be fun too. good luck. have fun and congrats!!

When we found out we were expecting #2, we bought our son a t-shirt that says "I'm the big brother" to wear at a family get together. It was fun to see people read it and slowly put the pieces together!

I asked them what they were doing in the month I was due (august). Did they have any trips planned or anything? They of course asked me why. I told them I wanted to make sure they were going to be around when the baby is born. The looks on their faces while they processed the info was priceless!

I put a baby bottle, a binky a bib, a baby rattle and my pregnancy test (with the cap on it and cleaned off good of course!) in a little baby shower bag on our coffee table for my husband to find when he came home from work. And I put his name on it really big so he would know it was for him. He was so shocked. Then we took it over to my mother and father in laws house and give it to them.

Visit them with a basket of fruits or a delicacy and place a small note about your secret under the food. Remember to put it in a striking and pretty envelope so that they don't miss it!
