I can play lots of instruments, and i can sing. I really don't want to do one of those talent shows. Is there any other way to start a career in music? Thank you

First you need to have something special to offer. Something that noone else has. then you need to get some kinda of recording done with really strong material. Before you hit the studio try to find a reputable producer to work with you and do preproduction on the songs. Then You need to hope on myspace and build a site for you your music. Network like crazy.... talk to everyone and be as friendly as you can to everyone. you never know when you are going to hit a connection and being an *** to them wont help you.
Then you need to start playing shows, at local bars clubs community events anything to get your name out there. Then if you've done things right and have a strong following. Just make sure you have a really strong recording make a press pack and send it to any record labels you can think of. Before you sign anything get a lawyer. If you have what it takes and you work hard someone will recognize your hard work. Be prepaired, its freakin hard. But stick with it its well worth it.

You could try and contact an agent. Once you contact them you can probably send them a tape of you playing an instrument or singing and then they could sign you. I don't know if that is how it works but i want to be a singer when I'm older.

Get hired and play in a band.. Honkie Tonks and Bars on Fri and Sat nite...Get a degree and audition for the professonal philharmonics...

You could try being born to a parents related to a record company executive, that may work.

try going to a small restaaurant and see if they have shows regularly that you could participate in. try to get your name out there and get some gigs in small places and work your way up.
