I'm going to how they say...condition them. I have the pairs in 2 seperate 2 1/2 gall. tanks and want to feed them the best food to assure they'll breed in about a week or two in their already set up 10 gal. spawning tank. I heard frozen foods are best? Is this true? If so, what kind of frozen food?

To get bettas ( or any other fish) into breeding condition, you want them to be as healthy as possible and as you obviously know, their diet plays a big roll in their health. It's not so much about any single food as it is about total nutrition. I always feed by breeders a meal of flake or pellet in the morning as a staple food and them a meal of frozen or live food in the evening. The foods for the evening meal I mix up, on day brine shrimp another bloodworms, mosquito larvae, maggots, daphnia, fairy shrimp, meal bug grubs... whatever I have on hand and the more varied the better. The live and frozen foods will give the fish an extra amount of the proper ammino acids and fats they need to reach top breeding potential.

There is no 1 answer for this question, it mostly depends on where you are and what is available there. Generally, feeding live food like mosquito larvae, blood worms, Brine Shrimps, etc ... would be best, but if these are not available or difficult to get, then frozen form of these would do the job.

Frozen foods are generally good to condition most fish for that. Be sure to thaw them first in a bowl with some tank water first though. Try some frozen blood worms and/or frozen brine shrimp.

What worked well for me was a mix of frozen flood worms, thawed and also freeze dried blood worms. They're a lot easier to prepare then frozen and worked just as well for me.
