Let height of tree be h ft
Angle of elevation for tree = θ
Angle of elevation for light pole = θ
tan θ = 9 / 15
tan θ = h / (25)
h / 25 = 9 / 15
h = 25 x 9 / 15
h = 5/3 x 9
h = 15 ft
Height of tree = 15 ft

Let x = height of a tree in ft
Ratio:
x is to 25 and 9 is to 15
Equation:
15x = 25 * 9
15x = 225
x = 225 / 15
x = 15
Answer: 15 ft is the height of a tree.

The tree & its shadow and pole & its shadow form similar triangles.
So ratio of sides opposite to equal angles are equal.
Let similar triangles are ABC and DBE, where
AB = pole = 9
BC = pole's shadow = 15
DB = tree = x
BE = tree's shadow = 25
So 9/15 = x/25 ( ratio of sides opposite to equal angle ACB , DEB and angles BAC and BDE)
cross multiply
15x = (25)*(9)
x =(25)(9)/15
= 15
so height of tree = 15 feet

25 is to what as 15 is to 9?
25/x = 15/9
cross multiply
9*25 = 15 * x
225 = 15x
15 = x
